  • Right to know is a fundamental aspect and Right to information is a basic need of any Democracy.
  • The main objective of providing information is not only to promote openness, transparency and accountability in administration but also to ensure participation of people in all the matters related to Governance.
  • Right to Information is a very effective tool in the hands of citizens to make the objectives of Good Governance realizable. Right to access information held by public bodies is a fundamental human right, protected under Constitutional law of India.
  • The basic object of the Right to Information Act is to empower the citizens, promote transparency and accountability in the working of the Government, and make our democracy work for the people in real sense.

OBJECTIVE OF THE WORKSHOP

Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad is organizing a One- day workshop on Right To Information- a Practical insight on 30th January, 2016. The main purpose of organizing this workshop is to know the insights, both practical as well as theoretical aspects of Right to Information Act, 2005. To Ensure participation of people in the planning process and know how things are being done as most of the governmental works are carried for the people . RESOURCE PERSONS:

Dr. G. B. Reddy

Dr. G. B. Reddy , Professor of Law, Osmania University is a lawyer turned academician. He practiced in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh for about seven years before joining the Faculty of Law, Osmania University, Hyderabad. He obtained his LL.B., LL.M. with Constitutional Law as specialization and Ph.D. degrees in Judicial Activism from Osmania University, Hyderabad. He has a brilliant academic record with three Gold Medals in LL.B. and one Gold Medal in LL.M. apart from being the first candidate to have qualified for UGC-JRF in Law from Osmania University in 1993. He authored 18 well received books on law. Two of his books namely Women and Law and Judicial Activism in India have been reviewed favourably in the Book Review section of the Hindu by Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer. He also published more than 45 articles on law published in standard national and international journals.

Mr. Shrinivas Madhav

An experienced advocate and campaigner, who can see from both sides of the fence has trained thousands of officials/activists and won CMS award for RTI research and publication. He worked as a Consultant for Andhra Pradesh Information Commission from2013 - and on Right to Information, Centre for Good Governance from2009-11 and 2006-07 He has conducted more than 100 Sensitization Sessions on the RTI Act, for activists from NGOs and Government Officials from various departments. His participation in a unique mass awareness campaign in AP engaged more than 50 voluntary organizations, resulting in 31,964 RTI requests during the second year of the RTI Act’s operation(2007). He was awarded for the best book publication and research on Right to Information from the Centre for Media Studies (CMS) and Social Audit Council on Information Rights.
